ARBOR BETHANY ALLEN
before i start i just want to say that arbor bethany allen is a lower class tourist working as a dishwasher. they were born nineteen years ago and look just like anna speckhart. oh and you can call me kiss. here's my application,
arb, you need to learn that i won't leave you alone just because you won't answer the phone. you listen to every one of these voice mails, i know. branwen wants to see you. she keeps asking where her mommy is. i can't keep telling her that you're 'on a trip.' dammit, arbor. i love you. but you know that too.
she is a mom. a bad mom. vaughn got her knocked up when she was sixteen years old and somehow miraculously got her to keep the child. as soon as she figured out that she was pregnant she wanted to abort the child, but vaughn's pleads annoyed her enough to convince her to carry the brat for nine months. for half of those she ignored the baby daddy, fed up with his clingy attitude, which was actually concern, and tried her best to save up to run away. how did she do that? by conning people of course. when you're as sly and conniving as arbor allen it isn't very hard to turn into a swindler. she birthed branwen odette hughes and up and left her arizona home. she was seventeen and her life was already sabotaged.
arbor bethany allen, it's about time you picked up the phone.
i'm surprised you didn't just shut it off. since you're still paying for it and all.
we were hoping that you would answer. eventually.
you got your wish.
are you alright?
i'm alive.
we know you're in florida, arbor.
i'll throw my phone away and leave, if you try to come and find me. i'm seventeen. i can care for myself.
we love you. and what about branwen and vaughn?
fuck them.
her parents suffocated her. or at least that is what arbor would tell you. they were just worried and wanted to know if she was okay. they had always been supportive of their daughter and continued to have faith in her when she told them she was pregnant. colleen and tate were two blue collar workers and had produced two other successful children. arbor was their tragic tale. she had done alright in school, up until she entered high school. her friend choice was the stoners and the misfits and she let all of her talent go to waste. she played the 'my parents neglected me' card and refused to give them the time of day. she wasn't a bad kid, but her thinking and mindset turned her into one.
i'm pregnant, vaughn.
you can't be. we used protection.
you had a fucking faulty condom.
we can take care of a baby.
you can. i can't.
we can do it together.
we're sixteen. be realistic, vaughn.
she really did love vaughn. he was her neighbor and probably the best thing about her. they were neighbors and their families had been close for many of years. it was only natural that as they grew up they became best friends. he was the only one who could tolerate her and truly loved everything about her. she could only give him so much and he took everything that she had to offer. they had sex because arbor suggested it. vaughn wasn't ready, but he loved her and did anything that she asked. the condom was old, because he had stolen it from his older brother's collection. it broke and in the end they ended up with a child and an arbor on the run. she was scared of branwen and the fact that it was time for her to grow up. what did she do? she left all of her problems behind, hoping that eventually they would disappear.
i need a job.
what can you do?
con people.
what can you do that is legal?
nothing.
you've got a job as a dishwasher.
she wasn't going back to school. but she needed to support herself if she wanted to stay in miami. why did she pick miami? one of her friends had moved their a few years back. when she had shown up on their doorstep they claimed not to know her. so she as back on her own again. conning was difficult, especially for someone so young. which meant that alongside her trade of all things illegal she needed an actual job. carson's was the only place that was willing to give her the time of day. her people skills were lacking, which meant that she needed a job in the back. for eight hours a day she would washes dishes and make a quarter more than minimum wage. the boss pitied her and also gave her a place at his house, with the ground rules that she would bring no trouble back to his house and she would always come home clean. at least she had a place to stay.
aren't you going to go to college?
i'm not smart enough for that.
you're fucking wrong.
i didn't graduate high school.
i see all of those books and your journals.
why the hell were you snooping?
because you don't tell me anything.
i like it that way.
she is smart. arbor has just been overshadowed her whole life. no one has ever had any faith in her, so she has no faith in herself. she writes like a maniac and loves to read. but she hides her obsessions and likes, for fear that all of the friends that she has made will judge her. at nineteen she is just as insecure as she was as a fourteen year old. she could get her ged if she really wanted. community college would be her only choice but then she would maybe be able to go and work in publishing. she doesn't have many dreams. but being an author is a thought that she always keep in her mind. maybe if she did something that she was proud of then her parents would be proud of her. and vaughn too. maybe she would even make branwen proud. she is three now. sometimes she even thinks about. wants to get to know her. wants to see if she looks like her.
