i'm waiting some some kind of miracle [atrb=border,0,true] [style=width: 250px; height: 290px; padding: 0px 5px 0px 5px; font-family: calibri; font-size: 11px; text-align:justify; color: #333; line-height: 99%; overflow: auto]a sigh escaped brooklyn's lips as she glanced around at the steady flow of customers coming through the doors. as much as she hated to complain, working at the coffee shop was really beginning to take it's toll on her. if that wasn't enough, it wasn't even the only place she worked- she also had a job as a waitress in one of the finer restaurants in town. surprisingly, she preferred that job. she didn't have to deal with rowdy customers as much, and she didn't have to work any confusing machinery (the coffee machine was actually quite hard to control, believe it or not) and she'd gotten good at balancing all the plates on her arms, and hadn't dropped a single one in weeks. she was improving greatly at waiting on people, and because the restaurants customers were mostly middle and upper class, they were often much less rude than people who came into the coffee shop. not that that was always the case, of course- brooklyn had had to deal with a lot of snobbish people, and it irritated her beyond belief.
most people didn't seem to understand why she had two jobs- she was middle class, and her parents were relatively wealthy, and she was comfortable. but that wasn't really the case. brooklyn didn't want to have to use her parents money all the time, and she much rather wanted to earn her own money. a lot of people thought it was quite stupid, because her parents would have given her anything within reason- but that wasn't what she wanted, and she was determined to make it alone. hopefully, she wouldn't be working like this for long anyway. she just needed enough money to get her started and up on her feet, and then she could focus on what she really wanted to do- song writing. she couldn't sing, and she couldn't play any instruments, and she was useless at dancing- but song writing was the one thing she could do. the one thing she wanted to do.
with another sigh, she finished clearing up the table she was focused on, before heading behind the counter, as her colleague took her break. although it was a relatively busy day for the coffee house, it seemed that a steady decline in business was beginning- people had at least stopped coming in in large groups, so brooklyn had a moment to lean back against the counter and just breathe until her next customer arrived. Travis was slowly adjusting to his new life in Miami. He wasn’t exactly sure yet if he actually liked it better than Nashville, he hadn’t been here long enough to make that decision yet. But from what he could tell, it had its nice spots and so he really couldn’t complain about being in a new city. This was what he signed up for when he became the front man for his band. They were going to tour nationally, hoping that some big time record exec would see them and sign them. As crazy as it sounded two years ago, he still believed it could happen… even now with the van broken and him living out of a single hotel room with four other guys. Trav kept reminding himself that this was only temporary and before they knew it, they’d be off again to another town, begging venue owners to let them play a set. Besides, a new town meant new girlies, and that was always fun.
It was well into the afternoon when Travy woke up and decided he should probably start his day. He wasn’t in any condition to go out and do anything productive, given the toll last night’s activities took on his body. Everything seemed to ache in one way or another, his eyes bloodshot from the lack of sleep, some bruises from doing something stupid he couldn’t remember. Yet this was completely normal for him. Eventually, he got himself out of bed and cleaned himself up so he looked pretty decent and hid whatever hangover symptoms he couldn’t fix behind his dark aviator sunglasses. Shortly after, he left the room and the rest of his band mates sleeping. His tummy ached to eat something, anything. He didn’t realize he was so hungry until he actually felt the void, this was a problem and so was the bright sun.
Trav walked a few blocks before he happened upon a quaint coffee shop nearby. It looked good enough for him and so he ventured inside. The smell of coffee and other baked goodies as simply amazing. It really was the perfect place to come to and his tummy affirmed that he made the right choice. Travis got in line after a rather elderly woman who couldn’t make up her mind. It was a little frustrating to deal with; especially since he had important business to take care of… eating was a serious matter for this manbear. He waited impatiently and opted to listen to the conversations around him even though nothing he heard was all that interesting. Finally, he approached the counter and his characteristic grin pulled his lips. Hi darlin’, I need a large coffee, a blueberry muffin, and your phone number.” He watched as she worked to get his order. Poor girl looked tired or bored, he couldn’t be sure which it was. Regardless, it looked like she needed a bit more fun in her life. Slaving away over coffee beans wasn’t anyone’s dream so he was going to figure out what it was. Sure he was nosey and it wasn’t any of his business, but he wasn’t going anywhere without a phone number.

i'm waiting some some kind of miracle [atrb=border,0,true] [style=width: 250px; height: 290px; padding: 0px 5px 0px 5px; font-family: calibri; font-size: 11px; text-align:justify; color: #333; line-height: 99%; overflow: auto]it wasn't like brooklyn hated life in miami, even if sometimes it got a bit hectic and she missed home. after all, homesickness was a given considering her homeland was really halfway across the world- ireland and miami were separated by miles and miles of ocean, and sometimes she hated that. but then she just had to remember that this was what she wanted- she'd always wanted to move, to get out of britain and try and make a name for herself. sure, working so hard at this job wasn't exactly what she'd had in mind, but it was good enough most of the time. she knew it wouldn't really be long until she managed to get her songs out there, managed to get people listening to them and wanting to play them. or rather, that was what she hoped. working like this, all the time? she didn't want to be doing this for much longer. she hadn't left her life and family behind for this. brook really hoped that things looked up for her soon.
the queue was back and quite long, and she tried to be as quick as she could as she rustled up the correct drinks and counted the change out, always ensuring she gave the customers back the exact right amount, because sometimes they got bitchy about that kind of thing. angry customers were never something she wanted to deal with. she hardly looked up to study each one as they came and went, choosing instead to loo mostly down at the cash register, and the machine when it came to making the drinks. the coffee machine had always confused her at first, but thankfully she was used to it now and usually managed to get everything right. one customer caught her attention though, with his easy way of talking, and her eyes flickered up in something akin to shock at his words. "Uh..." she managed to get out, her cheeks flushing slightly.
it wasn't like she wasn't used to being asked for her number- she'd had a surprising amount of people asking her for it since she'd started working here for sure, an she supposed it was because she met so many new people on a daily basis. "right. i can do that for you." she grinned at him for a moment, before turning to fiddle with the machine, grabbing a large paper cup and pushing it under the nozzle as she pressed some buttons. whilst that was working, she tucked a muffin into a paper bag and handed it to him, before turning back for the coffee. before giving it to him, she quickly scribbled her number on the side of the cup in black marker, tucking the pen behind her ear and handing it to him. "there you go... that'll be five forty." brook eyed him for a moment, pausing, before shrugging to herself. "i finish my shift in about-" she paused, taking a glance down at her wristwatch before looking back up. "five minutes, if you wanna stick around."
notes; sorry for the wait! [/style] | [/style] |

Travis was half surprised that this little miss so readily gave up her phone number to a perfect stranger. Half the time his silly pickup lines didn’t work but she must have been either super bored with Miami or just exhausted from working so much that she lost her mind. Clearly, Travis wasn’t the kind of guy you’d bring home to meet your parents. He drank too much, slept around, and did a multitude of other crazy things that no one in their right mind would do. So handing over her number and commenting about the end of her shift probably wasn’t the best thing for her to do. Regardless, that was her problem and Travis was never one to look out for other people. She would have to hang out with him at her own risk and he couldn’t be held responsible for any trouble they would get into. Travis had already landed himself a few nights in a holding cell at the local police department for something he couldn’t remember. Reckless? Sure. Bad influence? Absolutely. But that didn’t stop him from having tons of friends.
Travis smirked, thanked her, and paid his five forty. Even if he didn’t get a number from this, he would have been happy with his muffin. It looked delicious and being as hungry as he was, it would be perfect. He stepped aside with his order and selected a table at which to eat his breakfast and wait for this lovely lady. No, he didn’t know her name yet but that was okay. Trav was quick to give nicknames to everyone he met. She’d be “doll,” simply because she looked like one. As he continued on with his breakfast, he looked out the nearest window. It looked like the day would be promising, even if it was already well into the afternoon. He couldn’t remember if he had a show tonight or not but he figured one of his friends would let him know when sound check was if there was one. His brain, still half asleep failed to make a plan for the day’s events. Usually, he had some sort of idea of what he wanted to do or accomplish but this time he was completely blank. Perhaps his newest companion had a few ideas.
It wasn’t long before Travis had finished his breakfast and programmed her number into his phone before throwing out his garbage and returning to the table to wait. He was half tempted to rush her but he knew girls and how long they took for everything. Trav was growing a bit antsy when she finally arrived. Took you long enough, my dear. Trav smirked once more.
